Ester Noh: Violin
Violinist Esther Noh’s career fuses her classical uptown sensibility with her alternative downtown aesthetic. She has performed in virtually every major venue in New York City, from Miller Theater, Merkin Recital Hall, and Carnegie Hall to Le Poisson Rouge, The Jazz Standard, and The Stone. She has been a featured artist at the Whitney Museum of Art, Guggenheim Museum, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the Smithsonian Museum.
Recent collaborations include Meredith Monk, Savion Glover, John Zorn, Lou Reed, and the contemporary music groups ETHEL string quartet, eighth blackbird, ICE, Either/Or, Signal, and the League of Composers-ISCM. She has recorded for New Amsterdam Records, as well as for numerous independent film soundtracks, singer/songwriters and indie rock bands.
Ms. Noh hold degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and University of Michigan School of Music.
She was awarded a doctorate with honors from SUNY Stony Brook and is a member of the Brooklyn Philharmonic. She is a Suzuki-certified violin teacher and also presents outreach concerts under Carnegie Hall’s Musical Connections program.
